OFF Festival Katowice: Wild Girls at the Radio 3 Stage

The post-punk Savages and the noisy act known as The Twilight Sad are the latest additions to this year’s Radio 3 Stage lineup.

Savages

“I didn't want to write love songs; I wanted to write songs that were more violent,” explained Savages vocalist Jehnny Beth in an interview with Pitchfork. And she wasn’t kidding. This London quartet’s live performances are a cathartic bath in the kind of rage, anxiety, and fury that could only be produced by girls with nothing left to lose. They haven’t been playing together very long — Savages gave their first concert just this January, while their debut single, Flying to Berlin, came out in May, but the critics have already hailed them as heirs to The Birthday Party, Joy Division, and Pop Group.

The Twilight Sad
The Twilight Sad are a Scottish group that combine cold krautrock with punk candor, all enveloped in a noisy shoegaze haze. Or, in simpler terms, they perform interminably sad yet loud music, arranged for James Graham’s heart-rending voice and guitar, drums, accordion, and unidentified noises. They’re coming to Katowice to promote their new critically-acclaimed album, No One Can Ever Know.
