OFF Festival Katowice 2012: Announcing the Final Lineup Additions and a Detailed Schedule!

Futuristic country, a post-metal steamroller, and relentless punk’n’roll: we present the final additions to this year’s OFF Festival lineup, along with something many of you have been waiting for — a detailed schedule for each day and stage.

Daughn Gibson
Imagine a former punk rocker converting to country, only to launch its sounds into the 21st century much like James Blake did when he reinvented r’n’b. Imagine Roy Orbison at the age of 31 in small-town Pennsylvania, trading in his guitar for a computer. Daughn Gibson’s debut record, All Hell, released on White Denim (owned by Matt Korvette of Pissed Jeans), is nothing short of a sensation. You can be one of the first to experience it live.

The Band Of Endless Noise
The long awaited third album by The Band Of Endless Noise, one of Poland’s most original alternative rock acts, was released early this January and became an instant sensation. The Blue Nun is required listening, but don’t let it obscure the band’s earlier achievements, which include Polish and international tours, studio recordings and live performances alongside Karpaty Magiczne (including an appearance at the OFF Festival), and a showcase on John Peel’s legendary radio show. The next chapter in the story of this brilliant band is going to be written in Katowice.

Hanimal
A Warsaw-based quintet that has blazed a new trail in the singer-songwriter tradition by way of the rehearsal rooms of such names as Feist, Grizzly Bear, and even Joanna Newsom. Don’t be fooled into thinking this promising indie-folk band has anything to do with animals: Hanimal is named after the magically-timbred vocalist Hania Malarowska.

Obscure Sphinx
Their debut album, Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual, was one of the greatest surprises on the Polish metal scene in 2011. But to pigeonhole Obscure Sphinx as exclusively metal would be greatly unfair to this Warsaw band, whose music also blends in hardcore and post-rock themes. And we’re pretty sure Poland has never seen a frontwoman quite like their crazy vocalist, Zofia “Wielebna” Fraś.

The Stubs
This local punk’n’roll revelation knocked the wind out of us with their brief but substantial eponymous debut, released last fall. They came back this spring with an excellent and even more noisy and catchy EP. Kicking us while we’re down? Perhaps. It’s no accident that their latest release is titled Kill Yourself. These Varsovians must have some kind of grudge against us.
We would also like to announce that, due to circumstances beyond our control, Akron/Family and Purity Ring will not be performing at this year’s festival.
We would also like to remind debuting artists that they still have a chance to perform at the OFF Festival. Visit the T-Mobile Music website, register as an artist, upload your track, and enter the competition. Entries will be accepted until June 24. From June 25 to July 5, an online poll will be held to decide which of the 20 shortlisted artists will audition at Klub Chwila in Warsaw on July 11, where judges will select three winners to perform at the festival.
