Nikiszowiec: See the Magic of Silesia
We are pleased to announce that the city of Katowice has prepared a special trip to the magical neighborhood of Nikiszowiec, free for all guests of the 2012 OFF Festival.
The Katowice neighborhood of Nikiszowiec was listed among of the seven wonders of Poland in a poll by National Geographic Traveler magazine and has also been recognized as a Polish Historic Landmark. Built in 1908-1911, Nikiszowiec was designed by Georg and Emil Zillmann to provide housing to coal miners in Janów, now a part of Katowice. If you’ve watched the classic Kazimierz Kutz films Salt of the Black Earth and Pearl in the Crown, then you’re sure to have seen the beautiful, red brick buildings before, but nothing beats a first-hand experience of the magic of Nikiszowiec.
The trip to Nikiszowiec will take place on Saturday, August 4, and Sunday, August 5. Admission is free!
Notice: The sign-up list for the trip is full and reservations are now closed.
Tours leave at 11:00 a.m. from Plac Andrzeja, 11:20 a.m. from the Festival Village at ul. Francuska, and are expected to end back at the festival grounds at 1:30 p.m.
