Savages (GB)
“I didn't want to write love songs; I wanted to write songs that were more violent,” explained Savages vocalist Jehnny Beth in an interview with Pitchfork. And she wasn’t kidding. This London quartet’s live performances are a cathartic bath in the kind of rage, anxiety, and fury that could only be produced by girls with nothing left to lose. They haven’t been playing together very long — Savages gave their first concert just this January, while their debut single, Flying to Berlin, came out in May, but the critics have already hailed them as heirs to The Birthday Party, Joy Division, and Pop Group.
