Alva Noto (DE)

 

Alva Noto. Real name Carsten Nicolai. The head experimenter of the German electronic scene, with proper academic background to boot – he’s an architecture and landscape design major, in college he studies the theoretical properties of sound and space.

Born in East Germany, he moved to Berlin in the early 1990s. There he founded the experimental label Noton, which after a few years morphed into Raster-Noton – its sound might be best described as electronic minimalism.

Alva Noto has performed in multiple and varied settings, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Tate Modern in London and the Venice Biennale. It’s high time he played at the OFF Festival.
