Factory Floor (GB)
An English trio that is nothing like most of the young acts hailing from their homeland. Factory Floor doesn’t sing falsetto harmonies, reference folk music, or incorporate glittery 80s pop into their work. They’re loud and daunting, not seductive, and leave the senses irritated rather than soothed. Fascinated with the guitar noise of Sonic Youth, the experiments of Throbbing Gristle, and straightforward old-school techno, this trio has bent the knees and backs of many a London crowd. No wonder ex-Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris offered to produce their recordings. “For want of an easy moniker, you’d label it post industrial, but it moves beyond that; this is post-apocalyptic, the soundtrack of an underworld disco,” claims one “NME” reviewer. Perhaps it’s time you made up your own mind about Factory Floor?
