The Future of Music at the Trójka Stage
The OFF Festival Katowice invites you to this year’s Trójka Stage. The first two acts performing at the stage have been confirmed: the acclaimed British DJ and producer Actress, and the unpredictable GaBLé from France.
Actress
The English DJ/producer Darren Cunningham, who goes by the somewhat misleading stage name Actress, has only recently gained popularity outside a small group of fans. Enthusiastic reviews of his latest album, Splazsh, launched him out of obscurity, with such magazines as “The Wire” choosing it as the best record of 2010. While the critics see Actress as a savior and a breath of fresh air on the dubstep scene, the artist admits to having greater interest in the techno pumping out of Detroit and Berlin, as well as such classics as Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. No wonder he prefers to describe his music as “r’n’b concrète,” without a hint of boasting. His compositions are catchy — almost pop-like — and yet avant-garde at the same time.
GaBLé
No one had ever hear of this French band — much less cared about them — a mere few months back. But a few festival gigs were enough to secure their spot as the greatest concert sensation of the season. True to their DIY lo-fi roots, the band uses pretty much everything they can get their hands on, from acoustic guitars and violins, to electronics and seemingly useless objects. Frank Zappa must have inspired their rich imagination and sense of humor, but as soon as this group hits the stage, their debt to Elvis becomes immediately apparent. This explosion of positive energy and musical chaos cannot be described — you have to see it for yourself.
