Legendary Primal Scream album and... girls

Primal Scream will present their legendary album Screamadelica in its entirety, while Warpaint and Olivia Anna Livki will give us two female perspectives on alternative music. Get ready for some psychedelic and colorful shows.

Primal Scream play Screamadelica

The recording session for Primal Scream’s third album is the subject of legends, but the colorful story behind the dark sides of rock’n’roll would mean nothing if the resulting album hadn’t turned out to be a masterpiece. And that is precisely the right word to describe Screamadelica. It’s not indie rock: it’s total music, music that shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow and incorporates such distant sounds and musical traditions as house and gospel. The critics went mad over Screamadelica (the album also won the first Mercury Music Prize), as did the fans, but the band wasn’t quite ready to play the entire record live. They’re doing it now, after 20 years, and we’re proud to let you witness this historical event at the OFF Festival.

Warpaint

Few alternative rock debuts have been as eagerly awaited as last year’s The Fool, by the charismatic LA quartet Warpaint. If you thought musical bravado was the sole domain of men, these ladies’ psychedelic trips and sonic experiments will definitely change your mind.

Xiu Xiu

Xiu Xiu is another Californian band that isn’t afraid to experiment. And although their latest album is titled Dear God, I Hate Myself, they should be rather proud of themselves. Within less than ten years, this group has put out eight excellent albums featuring just about everything worth mentioning in alternative music: from synthpoppy trance to post-punk noise.

Olivia Anna Livki

We’re not going to lie to you: we discovered her through a talent TV show. We were charmed by the girl’s originality and courage, but to be honest, we invited her because she makes great music. Today, she’s a debutante, a modest Pole from Berlin who values her independence, composes and sings her own songs, plays bass, and programs her own drums. Where will she be in a few years? That’s tough to say, but we’ve got our fingers crossed.

DVA

A fascinating avant-pop duo from the Czech Republic. Their latest album, HU, is a combination of intimate acoustic sounds with modern electronics — a true merry-go-round of sensations that will open doors for this band all over the world.
