Mogwai (GB)

Rightfully considered the pioneers of post-rock, Mogwai are one of the most outstanding bands in the genre. Witnessing their live performances has been likened to a mystical experience. Just don’t forget the earplugs… We hosted Mogwai at the OFF Festival a few years back: the band liked it here, and we loved the band, so we’ve decided to invite them back. These Glasgow natives have been toeing the line between music and noise since 1995. They revel in contrasts and juxtapositions of lyricism and brutality, and don’t appreciate it when the lyrics disrupt the musical experience — so they don’t write any. One thing they do write is interesting titles, as seen on their latest album (and Sub Pop debut), Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. You can have a laugh at the album and track names, but when it comes to the music, Mogwai means business.
